HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – A neighbor remembers the man killed in a fire in Hampton Saturday evening.
Heavy smoke and flames poured out from the front of one home on Yorkshire Terrace Saturday in Hampton.
The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue says inside, they found a man and six dogs dead.
Melanie Shemer who lives right next door says the man that passed away was a great neighbor.
“He was very kind-hearted, and over the years whenever I had problems with the house like if I needed something to be fixed, he would be willing to help out. He was just a kind and friendly person.”
She says the fire was so intense she had to leave her home for a few hours.
“It was devastating, it really was. I’ve never seen something so horrifying.”
Shemer says the man lived at the home for decades.
The fire prevention branch is investigating what caused the fire but don’t believe it’s suspicious.
The medical examiners office will be looking into the mans cause of death.
